about

Circa 2001 at a Minneapolis vintage clothing store called LULA, there was a cool cat (Howard Hamilton III) who helped Brooke pick out stage clothes for various performances.

It turned out they both had music projects: hers was a searing feminist-spoken word-meets-electronic-experimental act called Burning Shakespeare; his was the super ambient, retro sound collage-meets-soundtrack outfit The Busy Signals.

They couldn't have come from more opposite genres, but in a world where Peaches and Har Mar Superstar (who Hamilton later produced) were on the rise, it somehow made sense. Turntablist and DJ/MC Tony Dosen joined in 2002, and TELEPHONE! was born.

Life On Hold saw radio play on local college stations (most notably KUOM/Radio K); was featured on TC Electropunk Vol. 1 and garnered enough press for the three to head back to the studio to make a few more jams.
